27. Setting Project Priorities
There is a great deal of confusion when you talk about project priorities in a multi-project organization. There are two types of priorities that often are not distinguished from each other and, in fact, must be managed totally differently:
Overall project priority, as viewed by the executives of the organization
Project task priority, often expressed by resources or resource managers with the question “Which project task has the highest priority?” or “Which project task is the most important one for me to work on next?”
This chapter explains these two different priority requirements and how to handle them to effectively meet the goals of the organization and all of the projects.
