9. Enterprise Resource Planning
Although we do not consider enterprise resource planning as one of the six big leverage points for improving multi-project management, we believe that a lot of time is currently wasted on it. Organizations waste time trying to come up with plans that predict, perfectly, how much work a resource will expend on each task and then balancing the workload plans across projects. This does not work and will never work because projects do not execute as planned! Furthermore, we are in the midst of historical changes, which have implications for the way we plan and manage project resources at an enterprise level.
