So, here’s the start of the really big news. First, the role of the slide master has changed somewhat with the introduction of both custom layouts and Themes. Additionally, the new layout functionality—though long awaited and most welcome—does require attention to a few subtleties to manage your layouts effectively.

In this section, we’ll take a look at what’s new for masters and layouts, and then take a brief tangent into creative best practices to address what goes into creating effective slides and layouts.
