If you read my first book or you’ve ever attended an advanced training session with me, you’ve probably seen or heard me use this Coco Chanel quote. That’s because, as much as this quotation can apply equally well to women or men, it also applies perfectly to your documents.
The purpose of layout and formatting is to get your content noticed. Using graphics, color, or complex layouts for any other reason is a waste of your time and quite likely to be nothing more than a distraction to your reader. At the same time, when your content gets noticed, you want to be sure it makes the statement you want it to make.
