Creating and Using List Styles

To create a new list style, you can access the New Style dialog box from the Multilevel List gallery or from the Styles pane. If you start from the Multilevel List gallery, be sure to choose the option Define New List Style and not the option to define a new multilevel list. If you start from the Styles pane, in the Create New Style From Formatting dialog box, you will first need to select List as the Style Type. Then, do the following.

Notice that the name of this dialog box changes based on how you access it—either Define New List Style or Create New Style From Formatting—but the behavior and result are identical.
