A few years ago I put together a little one-page Web site for the company I was working for, Clear Ink in San Francisco's Bay Area. The site was a Web designer's tool that lets him or her see how colors look next to each other. Colors are like words—they're influenced by what's around them. Red looks different next to yellow than it does next to blue.

In the random way of the Internet, the page got a little attention—some articles in Japan were written about it, and famed human interface expert Donald Norman liked it as well. I was happy.
