Why XML Is Good

XML is needed because the Internet is an absolute wilderness of different applications, languages, and servers. Some of these computers understand certain languages and other computers understand others. Before XML, there wasn't a way for these machines to talk to each other without knowing who they were talking to and whether the other computer knew their language or not. HTML doesn't count because it is just a picture of information, not real information. A person can usually figure out what a Web site is and what sort of information is on a given page, but a computer wouldn't be able to read an image that displayed what kind of information was on the page.
