Layers
Breaking an image into different component parts may not seem like something that would be all that necessary, but as you start to develop more and more sophisticated enhancement skills, you will start to see the advantages of such an approach.
Elements users are able to use a special Layers feature to help them separate different picture parts and adjustment controls. This separation helps provide better fine-tuning of ehancement and editing changes while at the same time is a key way that the quality of the original photo is maintained.
