Chapter 10. Printing, Saving, and Exporting

IMAGES RARELY BEGIN AND END THEIR LITTLE LIVES IN PHOTOSHOP. Rather, the images you capture from digital cameras, scanners, or other programs—and even those you do build using Photoshop’s tools—are typically edited in Photoshop and then head off toward some greater calling. An inkjet printer, perhaps, or a printing press. Maybe a Web page (not to be confused with a Web press) or a—shudder—PowerPoint presentation.

Wherever your images will land, you need to make sure they’re properly prepared for the journey and the destination. A photograph to be printed on newsprint needs very different handling than one to be published on the Web or shown on a DVD. A graphic designed for archival-quality fine art printing ...
