Step 15—Create Output-Specific Files

Now that the image is completely finished, I'll think about creating derivatives of the image to be used for specific purposes. Regardless of how the image will be used, I choose Layer > Flatten at this point since the layers are saved in the master file and I don't plan on making any more changes to the image. If the image will be reproduced on a printing press, the next step would be to convert the image to CMYK mode by choosing Image > Mode > CMYK Color. Next, I'd scale the image to the final size at which it will be printed and set the resolution by choosing Image > Image Size. Only after scaling it would I sharpen the image.
