Multiple Instances

Once you've created a Smart Object, you can drag it to the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers palette to duplicate the layer and create another instance of the same Smart Object. Each instance of the Smart Object will refer to the same set of layers that were used to create the Smart Object. Layer Styles, Masks and Warping can be used to modify individual instances of the Smart Object. Editing the layers that make up the Smart Object will cause all the instances of that Smart Object to update to reflect the changes. In the example here, a single leaf was used to create a Smart Object, then that Smart Object layer was duplicated nine times to create the other leaves, which were rotated (Figure 15.122) and styled (
