Start with the Highlighter

Go ahead and grab an image of someone with flyaway hair; if you don't have one, you're welcome to grab the image I'm working on from the CD at the back of the book. You'll find it in the folder called Practice Images. Just go to the Chapter 14 folder and look for a file called Flyaway Hair.tif. Now with your image open, choose Filter > Extract. Next, take a glance at the tools in the upper left of the dialog box; the Highlighter tool is active by default, and that's where we need to start.

Before you start tracing around the edge of your image, you should know that any areas that you cover with the Highlighter have the potential of being deleted. All other areas will either be kept or thrown away. This means that your ...
