Using Smart Sharpen

The new Smart Sharpen filter in Photoshop CS2 (Figure 12.47) expands on the concepts of Unsharp Mask to deliver a more sophisticated method for sharpening images. However, there are many instances where I still prefer the Unsharp Mask for reasons I'll explain in just a bit.

The Amount and Radius settings in the Smart Sharpen filter work just like the ones found in the Unsharp Mask filter. In fact, the results are identical when the Remove pop-up menu is set to Gaussian Blur (Figure 12.48).
