Replacing Color

If you like the general ideas we just worked with but didn't have complete success isolating areas based on hues, then you might want to try choosing Image > Adjustments > Replace Color (Figure 10.37). In essence, Replace Color combines the Select > Color Range command that we talked about back in Chapter 2, “Selection Primer,” with the same color shifting controls that are found in the Hue/Saturation dialog box. The one advantage of using the Replace Color command is that instead of having to figure out the exact Hue/Saturation/Lightness settings necessary to get the result you're looking for, you can define the color you'd like to end up with by clicking the color swatch that shows up in the lower right of the dialog box.
