Setting Smart Guides preferences

Smart Guides are useful for working with mesh objects because they display information about the mesh without the need to select the object first. You'll set preferences for hiding the construction guides (which are useful for drawing and aligning objects) and text labels (which you won't need for this lesson), and you'll change the snapping tolerance (the distance that the pointer must be from an object before Smart Guides take effect).

Choose Edit > Preferences > Smart Guides & Slices (Windows and Mac OS 9) or Illustrator > Preferences > Smart Guides & Slices (Mac OS X).
