Using live effects

The Effect menu commands alter the appearance of an object without changing the underlying object. Many Effect commands also appear in the Filter menu, but only the Effect commands are fully editable. Applying an effect to an object automatically adds the effect to the object's appearance attribute. You can select and edit the effect at any time using the Appearance palette.

You can apply more than one effect to an object. In this part of the lesson, you'll apply two effects to the star shape—an outer glow to make the star appear to glow and a texture using a Photoshop effect called Grain.

With the star shape still selected, choose Effect > Stylize > Outer Glow.
