#41 Preparing Images for the Web

Web browsers recognize three types of image formats: JPEG, GIF, and PNG. The first step in preparing images for the Web is to save or export them to one of these formats.

Which Web-compatible Format Is Best?

GIF and PNG images have the advantage of allowing you to make one color transparent. This feature is usually used to make the image background transparent. GIF images can be animated (a set of GIFs is stored in a single GIF to simulate animation). PNG images can be of higher image quality and have more nuanced color representation than GIF images.
