“Web-compatible image” used to mean just a JPEG, a GIF, or a PNG format file. Well, actually, it still does mean that. Only those three formats are universally supported in Web browsers (formats like TIFF, Adobe Illustrator’s AI format, and Photoshop’s native PSD format are not supported in Web browsers).

However, Dreamweaver CS4 makes it easy to embed an image onto a Web page from just about any source, and then convert it to one of the three supported Web image formats.

And, Dreamweaver CS4 includes some very basic image-editing tools so you can crop or adjust contrast in a photo right in Dreamweaver.
