Jeffrey Bardzell, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of HCI/Design and new media at the School of Informatics in Indiana University—Bloomington. He specializes in the aesthetics of software interfaces, amateur multimedia design communities, and digital creativity. His recent work explores the emergence of discourses and professionalization within so-called “amateur” multimedia communities, such as Second Life, Newgrounds, Facebook, and YouTube. Media forms include Flash animation, virtual fashion design, machinima, education, and viral videos.
