Chapter 15 AD HOC Nomadic Mobile Applications

15.1 In the office

Mobile ad hoc devices can automatically recognize the presence of other wireless devices through sensing the presence of neighboring beacons. They can initiate synchronization of a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with a desktop application over a wireless interface. This allows the transfer of files, emails, and even personal schedules seamlessly from the PDA to the desktop. The user can then proceed to work on the desktop computer if she or he chooses to do so. With machines capable of “talking” to each other, the distinction of which machine/device to work on has become blurred. We are one step closer to a machine-independent working environment.
