Dr. Mel Silberman was Professor Emeritus of Adult and Organizational Development at Temple University for forty-one years, where he was the recipient of the Great Teacher Award in 2000. Mel rose to international prominence for his contributions to the field of training. He received his AB degree in sociology from Brandeis University and his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago in educational psychology.

He was president of Active Training, a provider of a wide range of services that develop instructional skills in any subject matter. He has conducted seminars in active training techniques for hundreds of corporate and governmental organizations throughout the world.

A popular presenter at training conferences, he has appeared before audiences at the American Society for Training and Development, the International Society for Performance Improvement, the North American Simulation and Gaming Association, and Training Magazine.

Mel was the author or editor of over thirty books. This book, Active Training, has been one of the most widely read texts in the field of training and development. He is also the author of 101 Ways to Make Training Active, The Best of Active Training, The 60 Minute Active Training Series, and PeopleSmart. Mel died in 2010.
