Summary

In this chapter you learned how Microsoft directory services implementations have evolved over the years. As network computing environments have evolved, so have the directory services they rely on. Since the release of Windows 2000, the directory service at the core of the Windows NOS has been Active Directory. This chapter provided a brief introduction to this directory service platform and explained how it is designed to meet the demands of today’s network computing environment. Key features were discussed to highlight the benefits of Active Directory, and a brief review of new features concluded this chapter.
