3D world population chart, part 2: Dressing up

Now that we have our base globe, we will look at a few options that are available to make it look better. We'll go into the three techniques in this recipe:

  • Adding an animated cloud layer
  • Adding bump mapping to give the impression of relief on the globe
  • Adding a skybox to fill the background skies

Getting ready

This recipe's starting code is the code from the previous recipe.

We will introduce a skybox. Many previously made skybox images can be downloaded from the Internet. The one that is included with the source files was found on the Unity3D forums (http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/99258-Space-Skybox), but you can also use Spacescape to create your own: http://alexcpeterson.com/portfolio/spacescape
