Introduction

In 1998 I made a presentation at the INSEAD Business School Euro-Asia Conference considering the Asian crisis of the previous year. It identified a number of firms that had avoided the worst effects of this crisis and discussed some of the reasons why. Since that time I have periodically given lectures at various business schools on the responses that could be made to the many other similar crises that followed.
