ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Sandy Kizan is an Academic Expert in the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University (AU). She has taught introductory through advanced management accounting at AU since 2006. Sandy is a certified management accountant (CMA), holds a masters degree in business (MBA) and is a member of the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta and the Institute of Management Accountants in the US. Sandy has authored several courses for the undergraduate program at Athabasca University including Strategic and Competitive Analysis and Decision Analysis, both focusing on developing a student's understanding of management accounting tools and techniques. Sandy's professional background includes nine years' experience as a senior business analyst for the oil and gas industry specializing in business development and the creation, operation and management of two small businesses.

Sandy is excited to have adapted this textbook for a Canadian audience. She believes the decision-based focus of the book provides a practical approach for non-accounting managers to learn the key tools and techniques in management accounting. Sandy seeks to help students develop a richer and more substantive understanding of how accounting is used in practice.

Sandy lives with her husband and two daughters in the mountains of southern Alberta where she enjoys skiing, running, and gardening, and aims to achieve balance between her dedication to teaching and learning and her passion for her family.
