Abstract

This article starts with a historic sketch and an overview about common printing technologies used in graphic arts covering gravure printing, flexographic printing, offset printing, inkjet printing and electrophotography. We then explain the typical workflow for processing a digital color image for printing, which includes media gamut computation and mapping, separation and halftoning.
