You can use a wide variety of programs to take notes. Microsoft Word has a number of features that allow you to take highly formatted notes. Even a program as basic as Notepad can help you keep electronic notes. Since those programs aren't designed primarily as note-taking programs, however, they lack some of the key organizational features that make OneNote so well suited for note taking.
