CD-ROM, CD-RW, and DVD Drives

Optical drives fall into two major categories:

  • Those based on CD technology, including CD-ROM, CD-R (recordable CD), and CD-RW (rewritable CD)

  • Those based on DVD technology, including DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD±R/RW
