Chapter 4. The Motherboard and CPU

In this chapter

For several years, I taught computer-troubleshooting classes around the country using computers that were never enclosed in a case. To allow students to see the essentials of the computer (and save space), we assembled all the essential parts of each computer on antistatic mats on each group's table. They worked! This proves that the computer is the sum of the components inside the case and, as you will see in this chapter, the motherboard is the central connector among all the components that make up the computer.
