How Rules Work

Rules can examine who messages are from or to and take action based on that information. They can also search for specific words in the subject or text of an e-mail, or the sender's or recipient's address, among many other conditions.

Here are some examples of rules you can create:

  • Move messages from a certain person to a specified folder when they arrive in the Inbox.
  • Flag messages from a certain person with a flag.
  • Send a message to a cell phone or pager when a message from a certain person arrives in the Inbox.
  • Assign a category to a message if it has an attachment when it is sent and flag the message for follow-up in seven days.
