Working with Archived Data

Archiving keeps your Outlook data store running as fast as possible, and keeps it within corporate mailbox limits if you are using an Exchange Server mailbox.

Several different strategies are used for archiving:

  • Archive all items from all folders to a default archive data store. This strategy keeps all your items together but leads to huge archive data stores where finding things is just as hard as if you had never archived.

  • Set up archive data files based on time periods. One common strategy is to set up a new archive data file for each year, such as Archive2003.pst.
