What Search Folders Do

Think of a Search Folder as a virtual folder. Even though an e-mail might be in the Sent Items folder, you can perform any action, such as reading it or replying to it, while you are working in a Search Folder in which it appears. The next e-mail in the folder might be located in the Inbox or a custom folder such as Personal E-mail, but you can work with it without leaving the Search Folder and navigating to the Personal E-mail folder.

You can use Outlook's predefined Search Folders, or custom Search Folders you create, to group e-mails based on almost any search criteria. Some examples of Search Folder search criteria are

  • Unread items

  • Items with High importance

  • Items that were received in the past month

  • Items that have been ...
