Using Outlook for the First Time

Outlook uses activation to verify that you are a legitimate Outlook user and aren't using a stolen or pirated copy of Outlook. Activation is a process that can be performed by telephone or on the Internet. If your copy of Outlook wasn't activated previously, perhaps by the store or company from which you purchased your computer, you will be asked to activate Outlook the first time it is run.

Activation applies to all the Office applications, so if an application such as Word was already activated, you won't be asked again in Outlook.
