Web Server Technologies
To understand how FrontPage produces pages that display database results, it helps to know a little about the technology behind it all. Microsoft Windows and its standard Web server, Internet Information Server, utilize a technology called Active Server Pages (ASP) to generate dynamic pages. ASP pages (with the extension .asp) are processed before they are sent to the browser. They contain special blocks of code that are read and executed by the server, where the ASP code blocks are then replaced by the output of that executed code.
