About Layers

Layers can serve many purposes. Currently, the most common use of layers is to build multilevel navigation menus, whereby hovering over one menu option pops out a layer containing related menu options. Layers are also used to stack images that can then be controlled by behaviors, such that clicking or hovering over one area of the page displays a particular image elsewhere on the page.

The <DIV> tag is used in HTML to represent a container that can hold other elements.
