Introduction

In 2008–2010 I had the privilege of working with Father Ben Beltran, founder of the E-Veritas Trading Network in Manila, Philippines, as he organized an electronic trading network with and for the people in the Basic Ecclesiastical Communities (BECs) of the Tondo District of Manila. Beltran founded the network to engage the people of Manila in bulk ordering, purchasing, receiving, and distribution of fresh food and produce, daily and at much lower prices than they could obtain these goods in local markets.
