Executing Process Group

The Executing Process Group consists of those processes performed to complete the work defined in the project management plan to satisfy the project specification.

The executing processes are where the majority of the project work is done and as such, the majority of the funds will be expended here. Because the executing processes are where the product, service, or result is developed, the processes are very dependent on the nature of the project, therefore much of the information in the PMBOK® Guide will be project-centric as opposed to product-centric for these processes.

As the team conducts the work on the project, performance may require change requests to align the work with the baseline plans. This can include corrective and preventive actions as well as defect repair.

Corrective Action. An intentional activity that realigns the performance of the project work with the project management plan.
Preventive Action. An intentional activity that ensures the future performance of the project work is aligned with the project management plan.
Defect Repair. An intentional activity whose purpose is to modify a nonconforming product or product component.
