Another type of bad boss is one who makes promises that don’t materialize. Broken promises can occur in any job setting. Bosses can make promises about raises, promotions, bonuses, commissions, extra vacation time, time off for overtime, and give any number of assurances that something will happen. Employees can easily overlook the occasional broken promise, but if pattern begins to evolve, they’ll remember and feel devalued and unappreciated. That resentment can build over time, leading to acts of hostility: fudged activity reports, calling in sick to get promised time off, and more.
