Using yum to Install, Remove, and Update Packages

Installing packages

The behavior of yum depends on the options you specify. To install a new package together with the packages it depends on, while working with root privileges give the command yum install, followed by the name of the package. After yum determines what it needs to do, it asks for confirmation. The next example installs the tcsh package:

# yum install tcshLoaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekitResolving Dependencies--> Running transaction check---> Package tcsh.i686 0:6.17-15.fc16 will be installed--> Finished Dependency ResolutionDependencies Resolved=============================================================================== Package          Arch             Version              Repository         Size ...
