Sharing Ideas

In the Work/Life Approach, we look at sharing ideas that are central to the organization (see Figure 4.1). It is vital that the people who are closest to the action can share ideas. It is not unusual for a shop floor worker, custodian, receptionist, warehouse worker, or entry-level worker to come up with ideas that can have a direct impact on the desired end results for the work group and/or organization. In a workplace where people are encouraged, acknowledged, and rewarded for sharing ideas, serendipitous discoveries (unexpected outcomes) are often made, and sharing ideas becomes a valuable concept. It is unimportant who had the idea. What is important is that the idea gets used.
