Telling the Story

A single image has impact, conveys a message, and enlightens the viewer. Place more than one picture of the same subject next to each other, and the meaning becomes more complex. What makes photo stories so powerful is their ability to share a cohesive narrative that overcomes language barriers and illiteracy. As photographers, we are given the privilege to document and share the stories of people’s lives, emotions, personal traumas, and successes. The ability to harness the power of storytelling through pictures, and to tell these people’s stories, should be every photojournalist’s ultimate goal.
