Depending on whether a photojournalist is a staffer or freelancer, everyday assignment requirements may vary in quantity and duration. Either way, photojournalists can expect to do a number of the same tasks for each assignment.

• Research assignment(s)

• Make contact with assignment(s) subjects

• Determine photography equipment needs

• Prepare and pack photography equipment

• Travel to assignment(s)

• Document the assignment(s)

• Gather critical caption information

• Download images

• Caption images

• Edit images (in some cases)

• Transmit images

• Review assignment(s) with editor
