Responsibilities of a Photojournalist

The camera may not lie, but it’s only as honest as the person releasing the shutter. As trustees of the public, photojournalists have an ethical obligation to record events truthfully. We must produce images that are relevant to the event and society in order to be effective. Photographs must be accurate, informative, and able to convey what is happening during a particular moment in time. A true professional will take the time to view the story from every angle and highlight the important issues objectively. On top of all that, a photojournalist must also be an artist who can capture an aesthetically pleasing picture that viewers want to look at.
