Many years ago I appeared in a production of Anything Goes in summer stock. I played the role of The Drunk, which was a created character in the chorus. Because of my two left feet I was mercifully relegated to the back row of tappers during numbers requiring time steps (‘faking it,’ as it is called). Mostly I staggered onstage dazed from time to time and then finally exited. On closing night during the final scene, with the entire cast onstage as all confusions were resolved and love interests blessed, it started to rain outside.
