Be Humble, Be Good

Just as you won’t stay physically fit without exercising, you won’t stay healthy as a leader unless you continually take stock of your leadership impact. The best way to prevent future ass kicks is to keep arrogance and weakness at bay. Doing that means regularly kicking your own ass.

There is a point at which your respect for others and your respect for yourself overlap and strengthen one another; I call this the point of leadership goodness. First and foremost, leadership starts with character. You can’t be a good leader unless you’re a good person, and that means being good to yourself and others.
