Regression Analysis

This chapter examines equation that fits one’s experimental data. The general terminology for this type of activity is regression analysis. It begins by looking at linear functions—functions that can be recast asy = mx+b. The chapter explores the use of chart trendlines and the Excel functions SLOPE, INTERCEPT, TREND, FORECAST, and LINE ST. Some nonlinear functions, again using trendlines, and the Excel function LINEST and LOGEST are also explored. The chapter concludes by showing the use of Excel’s Data Analysis tools.
