Introduction

Stakeholders and management tasked with information gathering, evaluation, selection, and approval of potential project opportunities must be aware of critical steps that must be completed before project planning can actually begin. In the initiating process, stakeholders generate two primary documents: the project charter and stakeholder registry. If a project manager was not a part of this initial stakeholder group, he is identified before project planning can begin.
