Our self-worth reflects a pattern of evaluations we learned to make about how much of the time we should expect our efforts to be successful and/or accepted versus how often they will be unsuccessful and/or rejected. Over time we build this set of conclusions about what to approach and what to avoid into the comprehensive unconscious value themes that guide all our behavior. Remember, emotional energy is what connects us to everything we value. We learn to value being cautious or we learn to value being exploratory.
