Tips for Using Animation States

When animating the reference object for use with animation states, keep these rules in mind.

  • Function curves between all keys must be straight lines. Otherwise, you will not be able to select the objects when you click New Master Motion Clip (in the Synthesis tab of the animation states dialog).

  • Animate with modifiers. Vertices animated at the Editable Mesh subobject level don’t work with animation states. Get creative with Bend, Taper, Skew, Wave and other modifiers to make the needed motions.

  • Make sure that there are several keys for each animated parameter all through the motion, not just at each end. The motion clip must have multiple keys, even if the reference object isn’t moving or changing.
