Motion Files

At the heart of both the Motion Mixer and Motion Flow tools are motion files, saved with a .bip extension. A BIP file, also called a clip, is different from a MAX file. In a BIP file, only the motions are saved, indepedent of the biped. You can use BIP files to build up libraries of motions, which you can then load and combine with other motions on any biped.

To create a BIP file, first you animate the biped with any method, including footsteps or freeform in Character Studio, motion capture of a live actor, or even animation in another program. How you save the motion as a BIP file depends on your animation method:
